Wondering what our Clean Water Rally is all about? In 2019, over 125 Water Warriors rallied in Dover to advocate for dedicated funding for clean water. After gathering outside of Legislative Hall, citizen advocates heard from legislative leadership, including House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst and Senate Pro Tempore David McBride on their commitment to securing dedicated funding for clean water. Our Water Warriors flooded Leg Hall in blue and many testified in support of clean water funding at the House Natural Resources Committee Hearing for HB200, the Clean Water for Delaware Act.
In 2020, our Clean Water Rally went virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Together with our partners and Water Warriors on social media we reached over 2,500 people, advocated to our legislators, participated in crucial conversations about heavy industry in New Castle County, and began learning how to get more involved with the clean water funding process with the Water Infrastructure Advisory Council (WIAC). We ensured that clean water and conservation were funded in Delaware’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget, and prepared to continue our work to protect waterways and Delawareans going forward.
We’re so grateful for our community of advocates and can’t wait to continue our great work! Stay tuned for what our 2021 Clean Water Rally might look like!
